Ground coding agents in current Google documentation with the Developer Knowledge API

Google’s Developer Knowledge API provides structured, frequently indexed documentation for Google Cloud, Firebase, Android, and related products. It supports semantic and keyword search, Markdown document retrieval, and grounded answers through gcloud, an official agent skill and MCP server, API Explorer, REST, and client libraries.

Why it matters

This gives coding assistants a supported alternative to scraping docs or relying on stale model knowledge. A search-first workflow can fetch only relevant chunks before retrieving full pages, reducing context waste while keeping answers tied to official documentation. It is most useful for Google’s developer ecosystem, and setup requires the documented MCP or Google Cloud authentication path.

Replace agent vibe checks with trace-based regression tests

Google’s October 15 evaluation playbook shows a practical path from a handful of critical user journeys to repeatable agent tests. The open-source agent-eval toolkit can run multi-turn scenarios, ingest OpenTelemetry/OpenInference traces, apply deterministic and boolean judge checks, and report latency, token use, cost, and tool-call paths.

Why it matters

An agent can return polished prose while looping, calling the wrong tool, or triggering duplicate side effects. Freezing a small golden dataset and comparing the same traces after every prompt, model, or tool change turns those silent failures into visible regressions. The approach is framework-agnostic, although the documented automated evaluation service is on the Gemini platform.

GitHub’s package firewall can screen npm installs made by coding agents

GitHub’s package firewall entered public preview on October 20. It proxies metadata requests and package downloads from endpoints such as Actions runners and coding agents, then applies enterprise policies including a cooldown period, Advisory Database checks, and supply-chain checks such as attestation downgrades.

Why it matters

AI coding agents install dependencies quickly and autonomously, making package-install time a high-risk point for credential theft and supply-chain attacks. A policy layer between the agent and the public registry adds a useful control without relying on the agent to notice malicious packages. Today it is limited to npm and GitHub Enterprise Cloud; the preview is free, with metered billing planned at general availability.

Notion Agents can now run longer jobs with built-in review checks

Notion’s October 19 release gives its Agents a computer and browser, improved context management, a “Review for me” safety-check mode, and task runtimes of up to 24 hours. It also adds memory sync to Notion MCP; connecting a ChatGPT plan is available for personal Agents, while bring-your-own-key is still a private alpha for Enterprise.

Why it matters

This makes Notion a more credible workspace for long-running research, document assembly, and operations work that needs both web access and a final review step. The caveat is important: the headline capabilities sit inside Notion’s new AI credit system, and team-level model controls and spending alerts are described as coming soon.
